The Southport Weekender is now in it's 23rd year and May 2010 will see a new era for the World famous Weekend event as it will become an annual party dropping the November date from their calender. It is a real shame but under the current ecomonical climate it makes totally sense and will secure the future and ensure the quality of this legendary institution.
For those not familar with the Southport Weekender it is a music festival that attracts a 5000 capacity crowd to the indoor Pontins holiday complex in Southport, North West England. Having evolved from it's beginnings as a soul music weekender, the event now stands as the most musically diverse music weekender in the U.K. calendar. PERIOD!
From the R&B, soul and hip hop of The Funkbase and the main room dance sounds of The Powerhouse, to the soul aficionados Connossieurs' Corner and the eclectic styles of The Beat Bar, the Southport Weekender provides a feast of the world's freshest DJ talent, accompanied by party starting live acts and guest PAs.
With just the one weekender in 2010, demand is obvioulsy massive. The weekender costs £159 pp and this includes the on-site accomodation of the 4 or 6 berth chalets. The tickets went on sale at the start of December and already there are only a few hundred places left!!! A truley staggering feat considering the time of year, but it is testiment to the support this event commands. There is no advertising, it's all done from past experiences and word of mouth.
The event organisers are already making a start on the DJ & Live performance line ups which are normally announced a couple of months before the event. So watch this space for further updates.
Mark the dates in diaries, 7th / 8th / 9th May 2010 and if you haven't already done so book up now before it's too late!
